Mazzoleni at Abu Dhabi Art

MARINELLA SENATORE, DAVID REIMONDO, ANDREA FRANCOLINO

Mazzoleni is glad to return to Abu Dhabi Art, with a presentation dedicated to the relationship through different media.

The works of Marinella Senatore, Andrea Francolino, and David Reimondo, though distinct in form and focus, share a common desire to bridge gaps—whether between light and community, heaven and earth, or language and instinct. Each artist, in their own way, seeks to foster connection and understanding, pushing the boundaries of traditional artistic expression to invite deeper reflection on the world around us.

Marinella Senatore blends the transformative power of light with social engagement. Her works balance individual and collective energy, inviting public participation. As an “activator,” Senatore promotes empowerment and inclusivity through slogans, such as in We Rise by Lifting Others (2022), which inspire both personal and social growth.

Andrea Francolino’s art focuses on the symbolic crack, using materials like gold and lapis lazuli to link earth and sky. His work recalls Italian medieval art, turning the crack into a metaphor for the hidden connection between matter and spirit.

David Reimondo explores new symbols that transcend linguistic and cultural barriers. His recent works analyze the dominant colors of famous artworks, converting them into sound through an innovative chromatic description, blending visual and auditory experiences.

The “crack” serves as a key element in Andrea Francolino’s work. While the connotations associated with a “crack” traditionally encompass notions of breakage, fault, corruption or fragility, Francolino transforms this seemingly negative feature, into a profound source of renewal. Much like the transformative practice of Kintsugi in Japanese art, exemplified in pieces like m2 and Fragment, where the crack in the concrete is meticulously fused with a golden leaf, the artist highlights its accidental uniqueness, contrasting it against the backdrop of mass standardisation.

My work focuses on the individual. Recovering intimate subjectivity, which may also become a contribution to the community. I create imaginary theories that I translate into language through various media.

David Reimondo

David Reimondo has been engaged since 2014 in the creation of ‘symbols’ that lead to the production of new graphemes and phonemes, signs recognisable by instinct, thus transcending socio-cultural and linguistic legacies and barriers. In 2023 the artist presented in the solo exhibition Cromofonetica a new series of works:  each piece features an open book showcasing a specific work. The artist analyses the works main colours and through the use of a system of speakers placed inside the case that houses the publication, broadcasts its ‘chromatic description’. This sound possesses a unique and distinctive character for each work, reinstating the artist’s interpretation. Using the Cromofonetica ‘language’, the artist creates new and immersive works, offering a new way to experience these volumes and the works depicted in them.

Marinella Senatore’s work combines the transformative power of light with that of social aggregation. Her works position themselves in constant balance between the energy of the individual and the community. From light sculptures to collages, the artist’s logical-rational thinking is projected into the desire for public involvement, toward which the artist plays the role of “activator” by being a spokesperson for social instances and stimulating participation and spontaneous individual and collective expression. Hence the presence of mottos and phrases drawn from the most disparate sources that become instruments of empowerment, emancipation and inclusiveness, but which also testify to the role of the artist, as in We Rise by Lifting Others, 2022.
