For the 2022 edition of Art Basel Miami Beach, Mazzoleni presents a project that will stage a selection of works by Italian artists of the Post-War period. Lucio Fontana, Carla Accardi, Agostino Bonalumi, Jannis Kounellis and then Nunzio shared an innovative approach to painting and sculpture, experimenting with new techniques and materials. Optical Art works by Victor Vasarely and ethereal landscape views by Salvo will complete the booth.
The ensemble will focus on the crucial aspect of the post-war Italian experimental explorations, namely that of creations produced with traditional materials, but with radically innovative elements and techniques. These works seek to go ‘beyond painting’ and overcome its conventional concept and the then dominant Informal Art. This innovation takes place with an unprecedented opening of the surface to three-dimensional space, with a touch of the strictly pictorial effects in a monochromatic key, highlighting the perception of the painting as a physical object.
