The fabulous exhibition Alberto Burri: The Trauma of paintings, organized by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in New York, will continue next year in Düsseldorf at the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein Westfalen. This retrospective honors Alberto Burri (1915 – 1995), one of the most influential Italian artists of the postwar era. In his works, executed on tar, iron, and plastic, Burri violates the surface of the image, in the process liberating it from two-dimensionality. At the same time, he comments on the political trajectory of the twentieth century.
