The Families of Man

The Families of Man opens to the public on the 29th May 2021 at Aosta’s Museo Archeologico Regionale. The photography exhibition, sponsored by the Assessorato ai Beni culturali della Regione autonoma Valle D’Aosta, reflects on the major themes of humankind and society of the last decades.
The project is inspired by, as well as a homage, to The Family of Man (1955, New York, MoMA), a ground-breaking exhibition curated by Edward Steichen. Presenting works by fifty Italian photographers, such as Massimo Vitali, Gian Paolo Barbieri, Olivo Barbieri, Gabriele Basilico, Letizia Battaglia, Jacopo Benassi, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Paola De Pietri and many others, the exhibition reflects on the historical, social, economic, and environmental issues and events of the last thirty years, from the fall of the Berlin Wall to the global pandemic.
The exhibition is curated by Elio Grazioli and Walter Guadagnini and accompanied by a bilingual catalogue, in Italian and French.
