Rebecca Moccia – Gwangju Biennale, Italian Pavilion

We are proud to announce Rebecca Moccia‘s participation in the Italian Pavilion at the 15th edition of the Gwangju Biennale.

Once again, the Italian Pavilion aims to enter in conversation with the main exhibition, this time curated by Nicolas Burriaud, by connecting with the central themes and leitmotiv of the Biennale. Additionally, the Italian Pavilion proves the ongoing commitment of the Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul, under the direction of Michela Linda Magri, to promote young and emerging Italian artists, offering them a possibility to explore new horizons abroad and connect with the Korean territory.
The Italian Pavilion will be open to the public from September 8th to December 1st, 2024.

Produced by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura of  Seoul, and supported by the Embassy of Italy in Korea, the Bomun Welfare Foundation, and Mazzoleni, the Italian Pavilion is curated by Dr Soik Jung  and presents the work of Italian artist Rebecca Moccia.

The exhibition’s curatorial approach—developed jointly by Moccia and curator Soik Jung—seeks to move beyond stereotypical representations by creating a totalizingtransmedia and immersive spatial installation. This allows viewers to engage deeply with the theme, transforming the works into a landscape to be navigated, where sightsound and touch contribute to a complex, multi-sensory experience.

By examining the roots of loneliness, Moccia confronts the stigma associated with it, offering a multimedia exploration into loneliness and how it is experienced by Koreans. This investigation was shaped by a series of residencies curated by the Italian Cultural Institute in collaboration with the Seoul Institute of the Arts.
