MARINELLA SENATORE
curated by Ilaria Bernardi
This is the first monograph dedicated to the artist Marinella Senatore, which aims to establish an exhaustive overview of her twenty years of artistic activity. The monograph combines biographical information and exhibition history, as well as a rich selection of her works, constituting a new and important contribution to the literature dedicated to her practice.
The monograph, curated by Ilaria Bernardi, presents the first systematic and complete study of Marinella Senatore’s career, from her first debut in the early 2000s to the present day.
Its publication by Silvana Editoriale in December 2022 coincides with the 10th anniversary of SOND – The School of Narrative Dance, the artist’s internationally-acclaimed travelling school founded in 2012.
The critical essay thoroughly analyses the artists’ oeuvre and establishes links with the artistic and cultural contexts in which Senatore has worked during the course of her career. The text aims to identify the artist’s iconographic and theoretical sources as well as the principal concepts which define and make recognisable her work.
The chronology spans from the year 2003 – when Senatore began her career as a visual artist – and 18th September 2022, the end date of the Festival Alliance des corps. Carte blanche à Marinella Senatore, which was held at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris to celebrate the 10th anniversary of SOND.
