ITALICS presents: Panorama Monopoli

Mazzoleni is glad to announce Cooking Show. Live photography the special live-photo project by Massimo Vitali for the new edition of ITALICS’ Panorama (Monopoli, 1 – 4 September 2022). Join us at the dawn on September 1st and take part in the artist’s unique photo shoot in Monopoli.
ITALICS, the first consortium in Italy to bring together over sixty of the most authoritative ancient, modern and contemporary art galleries throughout Italy, has chosen Monopoli (Bari) for the second edition of the city-wide exhibition Panorama curated by Vincenzo de Bellis, Curator and Associate Director of Programs, Visual Arts at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, recently appointed as Director, Fairs and Exhibition Platforms of Art Basel.
After last year’s first edition on the wonderful island of Procida, from Thursday 1 to Sunday 4 September 2022, ITALICS is organizing a new itinerary in one of the most fascinating places on the Adriatic coast. The ancient seaside village of Monopoli, in the heart of the Apulian coast along the “Costa dei Trulli”, retains a secular stratification of the history of human civilization in its ancient settlement and surrounding walls, in the land of farmhouses, centuries-old olive trees, castles and abbeys.
A symbolic act will kick off Panorama Monopoli: at dawn on September 1st, in Cala di Porta Vecchia, a traditional ritual takes place, a plunge into the sea, widespread among the inhabitants of some municipalities of the Costa dei Trulli and the Itria Valley, and considered a good omen. In fact, they believe that swimming in the sea at dawn on September 1st ensures good health throughout the winter. On the occasion of such a special moment for Monopoli, Massimo Vitali will take a series of live shots as part of his photography project on beaches.
