The exhibition Foto in gioco! (“Photos at Stake” – “gioco” stands for “game” in Italian) presents the world of outdoor games and entertainment through the lens of 18 prominent Italian photographers, including Massimo Vitali. The works on display document the transformation of recreational activities from the second post-war period to the birth of the modern entertainment industry.
The show also highlights the evolution of photography over time, from the Neorealist period to a more environmental representation, which flows into an impersonal and social dimension in the 1980s and 1990s.
Conceived by Giangavino Pazzola, curator of CAMERA (Italian Centre for Photography in Turin), the exhibition includes over 120 colour and black and white photographs depicting people engaged in recreational activities, as well as habits, professions, and places, that have 0utlined a new relationship with leisure.
