The third event of the cycle Duel, from 16 November to 28 Feb 2019, created by Sergio Risaliti, artistic director at the Museo Novecento in Florence, Italy, invites a contemporary artist to dialogue with their work with another work within the Museum.
The protagonist of the exhibition To Begin A Time II, curated by Gaspare Luigi Marcone, is Gianni Caravaggio, in dialogue with Piero Manzoni.
Caravaggio chose a work exhibited in the project “Solo. Piero Manzoni” (presented until 13 December 2018, in the very same museum). The artist “picks” and “ritualizes” Manzoni’s “Base magica” (Magical Base, 1961), which transforms into an artwork by interacting with a person or an object.
The show is an anthology highlighted by some iconic works full of common links between Caravaggio’s art and Manzoni’s research, both being explorers of “new worlds” and heterogeneous materials between classicism, nowadays and contemporaneity.
