In the Parco della Croce Rossa in Brescia’s Mompiano block are two monumental sculptures: a large disk and a hemisphere that are symbolically mirrored in each other, in an open dialogue aimed at listening to all languages, past, present and future. The two sculptures are decorated with artifacts made by the girls and boys of the “Audiofonetica” Kindergarten, the users of the “Bambini in Braille” Association, and artist David Reimondo: each has made their own contribution, in their own language.
Along the Via del Colle dei Roccoli in Bergamo, there are eight totems of milled and painted steel dotting the path through the greenery: one of them is fixed in the ground, the other seven rotate on themselves at the touch of the user. On their faces, read consecutively, a text by David Reimondo is composed, written in Italian and in the language devised by the artist, an Esperanto that everyone can learn, a new sign and phonetic system where each grapheme possesses its sonic counterpart, a phoneme, and the whole leads back to a specific meaning, to new means of communication.
For Bergamo, Reimondo elaborates a sentence consisting of five sentences, which states:
IL MUSCOLO DEL CERVELLO È IL PENSIERO.
UN MODO DEL PENSIERO È IL LINGUAGGIO.
IL LINGUAGGIO DEFINISCE E INDICA IL FUNZIONAMENTO DEL PENSIERO.
VEDERE IN AZIONE IL LINGUAGGIO È VEDERE L’ORGANO TIPICO DELL’ANIMALE.
NUOVI LINGUAGGI DETERMINANO LA NASCITA DI NUOVI MONDI.
THE MUSCLE OF THE BRAIN IS THOUGHT.
A MODE OF THOUGHT IS LANGUAGE.
LANGUAGE DEFINES AND INDICATES THE FUNCTIONING OF THOUGHT.
TO SEE LANGUAGE IN ACTION IS TO SEE THE TYPICAL ORGAN OF THE ANIMAL.
NEW LANGUAGES DETERMINE THE EMERGENCE OF NEW WORLDS.
