2021 ACACIA Prize, Museo del Novecento

On the occasion of MIART and Art Week 2021, the Museo del Novecento and the Associazione ACACIA – Associazione Amici Arte Contemporanea Italiana (Association of Friends of Italian Contemporary Art) present INVITO 2021, which celebrates the successful collaboration between public and private entities working together with the common aim of preserving and deepening the exploration of contemporary artistic experimentation.
The exhibition, dedicated to the winner of the 2021 ACACIA Prize, will be presented, for the sixth consecutive year, in the Museo del Novecento. INVITO 2021 features the winning artist Marinella Senatore (Cava de’ Tirreni, 1977), who presents two works: Dance first think later (a painting composed of eight canvases) and Dance first think later (a light sculpture). Both will enter the ACACIA Collection, which has formed part of a gift to the Museo del Novecento since 2015.
Conceived in the studio, the work Dance first think later, composed of eight canvases, uses the concept of participation as a point of departure. Participation, understood as a concept and not as a language, constitutes the leitmotif of Marinella Senatore’s poetic practice. It is interpreted not only as a performative act, but also as a moment of contemplation. The artist deliberately associates more dynamic and inclusive aspects of art with more traditional practices, such as drawing, sculpture and painting; and each technique represents a mode of narration. The second work, which bears the same title but takes the form of a light sculpture, is a modern interpretation of the traditional illuminations typical of the culture and folklore of southern Italy, known as luminaria. The work proposes a reflection on the concept of temporary architecture and the “universal square”.
