Mazzoleni returns to Art Basel Miami Beach 2025 with Echoes of Existence: Time, Matter, Spirit, a project that explores the relationship between human existence and the universe.
Through the works of major twentieth-century masters, including Lucio Fontana and Salvo, in dialogue with contemporary voices such as Marinella Senatore, the presentation reflects on time, matter, and spirituality, inviting visitors to contemplate the intersection between the physical and the metaphysical.
The curated presentation is dedicated to Wifredo Lam, tracing the transcultural language and symbolic power of his works from the 1950s through the late 1960s.
Rooted in his mixed Afro-Cuban and Chinese heritage and shaped by his experiences across Europe, the Americas, and the Caribbean, as well as by the historical events of his time, Lam developed hybrid figures and a mystical iconography that challenged Western Modernism, articulating a vision in which spirituality and resistance converge.
The MoMA in New York will also dedicate the first USA retrospective to Wifredo Lam: When I Don’t Sleep, I Dream, open until April 2026. The exhibition traces the full trajectory of Lam’s remarkable vision, showing how his formal experiments, transforming figures, and landscapes allowed him to disrupt and overcome the colonial structures he encountered in art and in life.
